I absolutely love Balfour.  It's as close as you can get to an ocean town here inland.  It is located just a 30-minute drive northeast of Nelson.  It is a picturesque spot surrounded by the breathtaking natural beauty of Kootenay Lake and the Purcell mountains. As the entry point to Kootenay lake, there are a couple of public boat launches which makes it easy to get your boating adventures started!  There's warmer water in this area of the lake in the summer, as opposed to the west arm where the current can stir up the colder water in the deep.   Take a free scenic ferry ride across the lake and back or stay on the other side to discover the charming communities along the East Shore.
